Grandad has always dipped his Croissant into his coffee (most of the time when we have been on holiday in Spain or the South of France). When I asked him why on earth he has always dipped his croissant into his coffee, he explained that when he and Dobbin managed to get them self locked up in a Spanish prison, they were only given a large bowl of black coffee and a very stale croissant to eat/ drink. The croissant would be so old that they would have to dip it into the bowl of coffee in order for it to be half edible! I would assume this is what kickstarted his habit of croissant dipping although one thing is for sure, grandad has always been a sucker for a Pastry!
